The aim of this course is to explain the broad principles of construction management whereby the employer places a direct contract with each of the specialist trade contractors, and utilises the expertise of a construction manager who acts in the role of consultant.

Learning Outcomes

After studying this course, you should be able to:-

• Explain the background to construction management, contractual relationships in construction management and when the use of construction management contracts is appropriate
• Understand the circumstances in which it is desirable to use CM and prerequisite for its success, notably the need for experienced clients, pace of decision making that is well-suited to project that are technical complex
• Understand the circumstances in which it is desirable to use CM and its benefits, notably the separation of design from management, the need for an early start and 'value for money'
• Define the key principles of CM contracting
