The aim of this course is to provide an overview of subcontracting in construction. Main contractors are to an ever-increasing extent reducing their dependence on directly employed labour and subcontracting more of the works that they win.

• Explain how nomination is the practice by which an employer, through the contract administrator, selects firms who then enter into sub-contracts with the main contractor
• Provide an overview of engaging specialist sub-contractors under JCT SBC 11, nominated sub-contractors under FIDIC 1999 Red Book, nomination under ICC 11, and finally defaults of nominated sub-contractors
