An Overview of the Design and Design Submissions under JCT SBC 2024

An Overview of the Design and Design Submissions under JCT SBC 2024

Level Advanced
Duration 30 minutes

Having considered the Contractor’s basic obligations in terms of workmanship in the last module, we now move on to design.  In this course we are looking at the JCT Standard Forms (with Quantities, without Quantities and with Approximate Quantities).  Therefore any contractor design will be limited in scope (or if not then the wrong contract has been chosen).

However, this does not mean that no design will be undertaken by the Contractor.  All three of the JCT Standard Forms provide for a Contractor’s Designed Portion.

Accreditations & CPD

This course provides structured Continuing Professional Development (CPD). Recognition of CPD is subject to individual professional body requirements and the learner’s role. This course is not formally accredited unless explicitly stated.

Suitable for CPD requirements of RICS, CIOB, ICE, and CICES members.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this module, you should:

• Know how to identify the contractor’s Designed Portion
• Understand how the Contractor’s Designed Portion is put together
• Be able to explain the Contractor’s design obligations
• Know what exclusions of liability exist within the Contract for design
