Glasgow has one of the Highest Levels of Fine Particulates in the UK: Why does this Matter?

Level Beginner
Duration 5 minutes

This short course will demonstrate why research shows Glasgow has one of the highest levels of fine particulates in the UK. The World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines for air quality have recently been made more stringent and recommend that particulate matter smaller than 2.5 microns (PM2.5) should be limited to 10 micrograms per cubic meter (mg/m3) of air. But in Glasgow, one of the UK's largest cities, concentration levels reach 16 micrograms per cubic meter.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you should be able to:

• Explain why in parts of Glasgow are among the most deprived areas in Scotland
• Understand the importance of finding the source of the pollutants where people are being exposed to high concentrations.
